There was a very long discussion with my family over upholstery since it happened at home. My brother was worried that since the textile has lines running through the length of the bench and the bench has a taper from 15.5" to 13.5" the lines would also taper down and look very odd.

My argument was that it would look natural and the taper won't be that visible. It would look seamless and almost how patterned fabrics work on upholstery. We brainstormed for almost two hours to see how we could get the lines straight even on the edge/ height of the seat. I called our Master Ji ( the head of tailoring) from my mum's boutique to find a solution. It was discussed that we could pinch down the fabric from where the taper starts - give tucks and give the shape of the taper to get the lines perfectly straight. It seemed possible at first - however the upholstery expert Dinesh argued that the fabric is as it is very thick and if we give tucks, we would be able to feel the folds and I agreed with him.

Another thing to consider was that the fabric was only 21", the seat's max-width was 15.25" and the height was 3". So that's 15.25 +3 + 3. I was above 21", the only reason it worked was because of the excess on edges and because the foam also compressed a little.
